Intellon and Cavium Networks Collaborate on Powerline-based HD Video Distribution in Homes

- Cavium Networks' netHD platform supports Intellon HomePlug AV connectivity

Orlando, Fla. and Mountain View, Calif., June 1, 2009 - Intellon Corporation (Nasdaq: ITLN), a leading provider of HomePlug®-compatible integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment, Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) and smart grid applications and Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, storage, wireless, video and security applications today announced their collaboration to offer 1080p60 HD video distribution to flat panel displays throughout the home using Intellon-enabled powerline networking technology over existing home wiring. In-home HD video distribution with Intellon and Cavium chips will allow consumer electronic manufacturers, service providers, gaming console vendors and after-market gateway and HDMI cable replacement vendors to easily connect multiple video sources to flat panel displays without having to install new wiring.

Cavium and Intellon chips have been tested in connected reference designs to ensure both compatibility and entertainment-grade high-definition video distribution over home electrical wiring. Cavium Networks' netHD technology, with standard H.264 video encoding, IP networking and Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities and Intellon's HomePlug AV INT6400 HomePlug AV 200 Mbps PHY-rate powerline technology are an ideal combination for reliably distributing high-definition video content to outlets throughout a home. The two technologies provide a complete solution for the distribution of 1080p60 high quality video content to flat panel displays from Blu-ray players, HD DVRs, game consoles, STBs, NAS drives, multimedia hubs and routers or other plugged in consumer electronics devices in the home. It is also an excellent means for connecting high-definition security cameras to central monitors or the Internet.

"Cavium's real-time PureVu video processors are enabling a new paradigm for in-home video distribution," said Amer Haider, Senior Director of Corporate and Business Development at Cavium Networks. "We are excited that Intellon's industry-leading, third generation HomePlug AV powerline reference design works so well with our netHD evaluation platform."

"This solution extends the distribution of high definition video from a source device in one room to one or multiple flat panels in other rooms without having to install new wires or cables," said Chris Henningsen, vice president of marketing at Intellon. "This may be the next disruptive application for powerline and we're pleased to collaborate with Cavium, whose real-time PureVu H.264 codecs enable real-time HD video distribution to a wide range of displays, gaming, gateway and other consumer electronics devices."

The Cavium netHD Evaluation Platform provides a cost effective, ready-to-use and feature-rich development platform to build next generation in-home HD Video distribution systems called netHD gateways. The platform integrates the Cavium Networks' PureVu CNW3602 and OCTEON CN50XX MIPS64 processor. The platform offers 2x HDMI interfaces, 1x VGA input, 1x SPDIF audio output, 1x GE port and 1x USB 2.0 host. The HDMI interfaces can input 1080p60 HD video and send a secure compressed video stream via Intellon's INT6400 powerline technology to a receiving flat panel that displays the HD video. The netHD evaluation platform ships with ready-to-use software called the netHD application.

The Intellon HDK6400-ETH Hardware Development Kit supports the design effort with two reference nodes and five of the world's most advanced HomePlug AV-compliant third-generation chipsets (INT6400 and INT1400). Driving this advanced technology is the Intellon HomePlug AV-compliant firmware, which supports multi-stream SD and HD video. The RD6400-ETH Reference Design is complete with a detailed bill of materials, schematic, layout diagrams, Gerber files and even case specifications that make the entire product pre-designed, pre-sourced and production-ready.

The Cavium netHD platform and development software kit is immediately available from Cavium Networks. For pricing and more information on how to order a netHD evaluation platform please contact Cavium Networks.

The Intellon RD-6400ETH Reference Design, HDK6400-ETH Hardware Development Kit and Software Development Kit and production volumes of Intellon's INT6400 ICs are available now from Intellon. For more information on ordering the RD-6400ETH, HDK6400-ETH or INT6400 chipsets, contact Intellon.
