Intellon HomePlug-based ICs Selected by Network Specialist devolo AG

Selection of Intellons HomePlug-based technology represents devolo AG commitment to HomePlug for its entire product line going forward.

Intellon Corporation (Nasdaq: ITLN), a leading provider of HomePlug®-compatible integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment, broadband over powerline (BPL), Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) and smart grid applications, announced that devolo AG of Aachen, Germany will expand the use of Intellon ICs over their entire powerline networking portfolio, including products in devolo's new multiple dwelling unit (MDU) and commercial product lines.

With a growing powerline communications market, evidenced by the HomePlug Powerline Alliance's recent announcement that HomePlug product shipments have doubled over the last 12 months, it becomes increasingly important for the industry to consolidate around a single global standard.

"We see HomePlug as the clear de facto global standard for powerline communications today, and we also see movement within the IEEE P1901 Working Group toward a standard compatible with HomePlug," said Heiko Harbers, CEO of devolo AG. "Therefore, we think it's time to move all our new products under the HomePlug global standard."

"Intellon is the leader in supplying HomePlug standards-based ICs and has been an important supplier for our successful retail networking products over many years," continued Harbers, "so it made perfect sense for us to expand Intellon ICs into new product lines and discontinue use of all other non-HomePlug products."

"We value devolo AG as a major customer who continues to deliver a wide range of innovative powerline networking products for European markets," said Rick Furtney, president and COO of Intellon Corporation. "As they expand from their retail and service provider markets to MDU and business networking solutions, we are delighted that they've once again selected our ICs."

Intellon Powerline IC Applications

These ICs offer the speed and reliability necessary to drive next-generation home entertainment applications, including HD and SD video distribution, IPTV, networked digital video recorders (DVRs) and media center PCs. Additional broadband applications include whole-house audio, networked home security, Voice over IP (VoIP), Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC), networked and online gaming, extension and bridging of high speed wireless technologies and higher data-rate Internet access technologies such as ADSL2+, VDSL and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH).
