HomePlug Powerline Alliance Announces Dates for HomePlug AV Certification Plugfest
First Compliance and Interoperability Certification to Grant Products the HomePlug AV Certified Logo Promising Seamless Compatibility of Products across Multiple Vendors
San Ramon, Calif. July 12, 2007 Driving the worldwide acceptance of high-speed networking over power lines, the HomePlug® Powerline Alliance today announced the dates for its HomePlug AV compliance and interoperability (C&I) product certification "Plugfest." The event, which includes testing performed by an independent laboratory in France, consists of two parts
compliance testing and interoperability testing and will take place July 16-27, 2007.
HomePlug member companies will submit products to be tested at the "Plugfest" event to qualify for the "HomePlug AV Certified" logo, which promotes interoperability of products incorporating powerline communications standards and ensures a seamless consumer experience.
Founded in 2000, the HomePlug Alliance is the only powerline communications organization to offer open-standard based technology backed by multiple silicon providers and a strong program of compliance and interoperability testing. The latest round of HomePlug testing is the first to award products the "HomePlug AV Certified" logo, identifying that they are interoperable with other products within the HomePlug AV high-speed connectivity solution.
"As the only powerline organization to offer such a complete approach, the HomePlug Alliance's compliance and interoperability certification programs guarantee that consumers will have the most robust yet easy-to-use products available today," said Craig Cedros from Intel Corporation, who serves as the chair of the HomePlug Powerline Alliance C&I Work Group. "By continuing with such efforts as our Plugfest testing, the HomePlug Alliance further advances the worldwide acceptance of powerline communications products."
The HomePlug AV compliance and interoperability test events are held at an independent test facility using common test code, standardized platforms, test specifications and a variety of system profiles. To help manufacturers and consumers easily identify HomePlug AV products, the Alliance awards each product successfully tested a special "HomePlug AV Certified" mark to incorporate onto products, product packaging and collateral. The Alliance maintains a list of these products on the HomePlug Web site. The Alliance is continuing to expand its compliance and interoperability testing. With the large number of products submitted, the independent Test House will have an inventory of certified products which will enable product vendors to work with the Test House to schedule testing as soon as their products are ready. This helps member companies plan for and accelerate their product introductions.
