Intellon HomePlug ICs Selected for D-Link's New Internet Surveillance Camera Kit
- Internet surveillance camera kit links to gateway, internet and D-Life web application via Intellon HomePlug technology.
Orlando, Fla., October 27, 2008 - Intellon Corporation (Nasdaq: ITLN), a leading provider of HomePlug®-compatible integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment, Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) and smart grid applications, announced that key retail OEM D-Link's DHA-390 internet surveillance camera package - recently introduced and now available - uses Intellon's HomePlug-based INT5500 ICs to enable video streaming from home surveillance cameras to the router/home gateway, allowing Internet access to D-Link's D-Life web application.
Intellon-based powerline technology, which transmits video signals over power cords and existing electrical wiring, is increasingly being adopted for video applications because it eliminates the need to add new wires and circumvents problems encountered with wireless solutions that are more difficult to set-up and may not have the range or reliable bandwidth to adequately support video.
Intellon's HomePlug ICs have been used in several other surveillance camera applications and are employed by over 40 service providers to distribute standard and high definition video with quality imaging and ease of installation, set-up and use.
"Intellon powerline technology is an excellent solution for data, video, audio, gaming and other networked applications throughout the home because of its high capacity, reliability and the re-use of existing wiring," said Rick Furtney, president and COO of Intellon Corporation. "This new D-Link solution is characteristic of a trend in consumer electronics to provide existing wire connectivity that delivers speed, quality and ease-of-use."
By using Intellon's HomePlug powerline communications technology, set-up of the D-Link Internet surveillance system is easy and quick. After the plug-and-play set-up, users can remotely monitor live streaming video from one or more cameras in the home from a single home location or from other locations by using the D-Life website (www.d-life.com).
