Belkin Selects Intellons HomePlug-based ICs for Innovative Power Line Adapters

Belkin powerline adapters are easily transformed for either wall plug or desktop use and include plug adapters for various world geographies

Intellon Corporation (Nasdaq: ITLN), a leading provider of HomePlug®-compatible integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment, broadband over powerline (BPL), Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) and smart grid applications, announced that Belkin International, Inc. has selected the Intellon INT6300 HomePlug AV IC for use in an innovative new powerline Ethernet adapter that can be used for desktop and wall plug applications both in North America and overseas. Belkin will also supply an adapter version based on Intellon's INT5500 HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo IC (operating at 85 Mbps PHY-rate).

Using Intellon's INT6300 HomePlug AV-based 200 Mbps (PHY-rate) IC, the new adapter includes two AC plug options, one for US-type AC outlets and the other for international AC outlets. For wall plug applications, the user simply selects the appropriate plug adapter and then plugs the adapter into the wall outlet. The product also includes a 6-foot power cord that allows the adapter to be used as a desktop unit.

"We chose HomePlug-based technology because it is the global standard, and we chose Intellon because they are the leading supplier of HomePlug-based ICs," said Chris McGugan, VP of Product Management for Belkin. "Innovative products and standards-based interoperability bring value that our customers seek."

"Belkin has been recognized for industry-leading innovation across a wide range of products, and this new powerline adapter is further evidence of their leadership," said Rick Furtney, president and COO of Intellon Corporation. "We are happy that, again, Belkin has turned to Intellon to supply the advanced HomePlug AV-based IC for this new product as well as our HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo IC for their 85 Mbps version."
