HomePlug® Powerline Alliance Holds Third HomePlug Executive Seminar to Discuss the Ever-Growing Interest in Powerline Networking in Japan

- Recent Wave of Major Alliance News Adds to Growing International Momentum -

Tokyo, Japan June 24, 2007 Driving the worldwide acceptance of high-speed networking over power lines, the HomePlug® Powerline Alliance today is conducting their third Executive Seminar in Japan focusing on the many ways HomePlug powerline communications standards can be implemented in the growing consumer electronics and communications markets. The meeting is being hosted by Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. at their Tokyo Head Office. Leading up to this Executive Seminar, HomePlug member companies have continued to build the momentum of the Alliance with several recent announcements.

Leading the charge, Alliance member companies have now shipped more than 10 million powerline communications devices on six continents. This marks a significant milestone demonstrating the continued worldwide adoption of this global standards-based solution.

Additionally, Sumitomo Electric Industries has chosen HomePlug AV to enable in-home distribution of KDDI's IPTV services in Japan. Intellon's INT6000 HomePlug AV-based ICs will be used in Sumitomo's G02P1 PLC adapters. The adapters provide connectivity from the broadband access modem to the IPTV set-top-box (STB) using the existing electrical wiring in the customer's home, allowing KDDI subscribers to easily create an in-home network for their IPTV service.

Several member companies have also recently announced new products based on HomePlug technology:
devolo AG launched the dLAN Wireless Extender that utilizes both HomePlug and WLAN technologies and extends an existing WiFi connection over power lines.
NETGEAR launched the Space-Saving Powerline Extender, the first two-in-one powerline network extender to enable powerline networking on NETGEAR Routers. The Extender is compatible with other NETGEAR HomePlug-certified devices.
VisualGate Systems launched PL-VUE, the world's first commercial surveillance video-over-powerline solution utilizing HomePlug technology.
Zyxel announced its P-660HWP all-in-one ADSL2+ gateway, the first and only product in the market with built-in HomePlug® AV technology in a single device.

"This has been an exciting year for HomePlug and powerline networking in Japan. We're thrilled to be conducting our third Executive Seminar in this country as it demonstrates how integral Japan is in the global adoption of our standards-based approach to powerline networking solutions," said Matthew Theall from Intel Corporation, who also serves as president of the HomePlug Powerline Alliance. "Additionally, with the announcement of several new products and the Alliance's milestone of shipping over 10 million units, all the member companies are pleased with the growing global momentum of HomePlug technology."

Today's HomePlug Executive Seminar in Japan will cover such topics as the unique requirements of the Japanese market, including how HomePlug technology is being deployed in Japan and around the world; understanding competitive testing conducted between HomePlug products and other powerline technologies in the market; understanding the details of the Alliance's plans that ensure the seamless integration of multiple products from multiple companies; how each HomePlug standard is addressing the worldwide issues that affect the market, the technology, and the radio spectrum; live demonstrations of HomePlug technology; and more.

Founded in 2000, the HomePlug Powerline Alliance is the only powerline communications organization to offer an open-standard based technology backed by multiple silicon providers and a strict product certification process developed by product manufacturers worldwide. Companies interested in receiving information about joining the HomePlug Alliance or future events are invited to contact Executive Director Rob Ranck (rranck@inventures.com) for details on membership and activities.
