AMB Affirms Commercial Deployment of Voice over IP (VoIP)
Using MainNet's Broadband Powerline Communications (BPL/PLC) Solution
Raanana, Israel, March 13, 2007 - MainNet, a leader in the BPL/PLC market, today reported a successful deployment of commercial VoIP using its PLUS solutions at AMB an Electricity Utility located in southern Switzerland. AMB is now offering VoIP and Internet services over its existing electric grid to customers in the Ticino region.
AMB were looking to diversify their product range by also offering broadband communication services to their electricity subscribers in both residential and small business categories. The transparency to telecommunication standards of MainNet's VoIP solution has enabled rapid deployment of both Internet and VoIP over existing powerlines.
Using MainNet's end-to-end BPL/PLC PLUS system with its high QoS and voice priority features, allows AMB to offer its WAMBO (Internet speeds of 300kb/s to 1600kb/s in accordance with a user's requirements) and WAMBOTEL (VoIP using standard, off-the-shelf VoIP ATAs [Analog Telephony Adapters]) services at competitive prices.
"Compared with other solutions in the market, MainNet were able to provide us with a field-proven BPL/PLC solution, and the added values we were looking for" said Mauro Suá, General Director of AMB. "MainNet's feature-rich PLUS solution enables us to offer Internet at different speeds (unavailable from other providers), and VoIP services as well as creating the infrastructure for future implementation of Smart Grid applications. Using our existing electricity grid to run WAMBO and WAMBOTEL services, we can provide broadband communication services to rural areas that are not served by other technologies" he concluded.
iLight, MainNet's local partner, integrated and implemented the BPL/PLC solution at AMB. According to Alberto De Lorenzi, Project Manager at AMB: "iLight's professional service, further simplified by MainNet's plug-and-play technology, made it possible for us to deliver broadband powerline communication services in a short time-to-market."
"Being a dynamic innovator in its field, AMB successfully initiated broadband communications over the powerline" said Geri Katz, CEO at MainNet Communications, adding "This is yet another project using MainNet's turn-key BPL/PLC solutions, giving an added value to the Utility's core business and therefore increasing revenues".
