NETGEAR Selects Intellon's INT6400 for HomePlug AV enabled Home Theater Internet Connection Kit
- Innovative kit enables multiple home entertainment products (such as HDTV, STB, game console and Blu-ray player) to access the Internet over existing home wiring.
Orlando, Fla., August 11, 2009 - Intellon Corporation (Nasdaq: ITLN), a leading provider of HomePlugŪ-compatible integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment, Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) and smart grid applications, announced that NETGEARŪ, Inc. (NASDAQGM: NTGR), a worldwide provider of technologically innovative, branded networking solutions, is using Intellon's newest HomePlug AV based INT6400 chipset in its new XAVB1004 Home Theatre Internet Connection Kit. The kit includes a four-port and a one-port powerline communications adapter.# # #
The XAVB1004 is remarkably easy to set-up and use. Customers simply plug the one-port adapter into a convenient outlet near their home gateway and router and plug the four-port adapter into another outlet by their entertainment center. With these easy steps, Ethernet-enabled HDTVs, set-top boxes, gaming consoles, Blu-Ray players connected to the four-port adapter have instant connectivity to the Internet and other networked devices in the home over the existing electrical wiring. Customers enjoy entertainment-grade, wired networking without the image freezes, pixilation or other image problems often encountered with wireless systems.
Besides being ideal for connecting devices in the home entertainment area, the four-port unit is a convenient solution for any home location with multiple Ethernet-enabled devices, such as network-attached storage (NAS) drives, PCs, networked printers and security cameras.
Intellon's INT6400 chipset technology enables the units to deliver 200 Mbps PHY-rates along with lower operating power and port-based Quality of Service (QoS). QoS is important for entertainment systems because heavy network traffic could deteriorate image quality of video content. NETGEAR's 4-port unit features assigned priority for each port, allowing users to easily configure their own QoS network priorities if they wish.
"NETGEAR is committed to offering consumers the latest home networking technology and are pleased to be working with Intellon to deliver the first 4-port powerline switch to use the Intellon 6400 chipset - providing superior performance to any existing 4-port powerline switch on the market," said Chris Geiser, NETGEAR's product line manager for Powerline devices. "These products are ideal for those customers who want to extend their home network while covering all of their high bandwidth needs, including (HD) video, gaming, streaming music and high-speed Internet connectivity. This 4-port powerline product provides a fast, simple and reliable way to connect these devices to the network and Internet."
"NETGEAR's single-port version won the PC Magazine Editor's Choice Award last year and this new unit won a CES Innovations 2009 Design and Engineering Award" said Rick Furtney, president and COO of Intellon. "We are delighted that NETGEAR selected our newest IC for this exciting home theater connectivity solution."
The INT6400 is Intellon's most advanced IC. It has the lowest power consumption of any 200 Mbps PHY-rate HomePlug AV class IC, supports European 2011 Code of Conduct requirements for adapters and embedded products and delivers higher TCP throughput and more customer programmability options (such as programmable LEDs, push buttons and diagnostics), as well as improved Quality of Service (QoS).
